To be PMP Certified or Not?

X-RoadsJust when you thought you could stop getting another ceritificate, the Project Management Institute is pushing more than ever that PMs should shoudl get cerfitifed.  Especially now and beore the PMBOK 4th addition comes out in June.  I’m still a bit on the fence becaues after so many years of doing project management work and an extensive educational background, is having a certificate going to really make all that much of a difference?

Most people I speak with are split as well. Of course the one’s that have their cerification agree that it is important and it makes you more marketable and the one’s that do not have it tend to say, it’s nice to have, but it really doesn’t matter.

So, I guess it just comes down to a personal choice and who you believe will help you with your career.  I personally do want to get my certificate, but I don’t want to feel like it’s a career ending choice if I don’t get one.
